The Ceduna Generic Homelessness Service can provide support with obtaining private rental housing and advocacy with social housing.

They can refer and provide support for emergency accommodation for individuals, couples and families. The can also provide specialised services including the Supportive Housing program.

When people walk through the doors of Hutt St Centre they are helped to fulfil their immediate needs, like a shower, a meal, and a charged phone, while their 20+ visiting services provide support ranging from medical check-ups to financial counselling.

With a focus on the future, they connect people with housing, education and employment opportunities to build the skills and confidence to change their circumstances for good.

They believe in a society that grants all people an equal chance to live a full life. And until that happens, Hutt St Centre will continue to be the voice for systematic change. Adelaide North West Homelessness Alliance (ANWHA) offers a range of services for people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.

ANWHA provide services through a collaborative partnership between seven for-purpose community organisations and the South Australian Housing Authority. Together they aim to provide access to safe and supported accommodation options that lead people towards independence and belonging.

Centacare Whyalla Homelessness Service

Whyalla Homelessness Service provides a range of supports and related services to individuals, couples and families who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness and aged 15 years and above.

They can assist with access to:

- Crisis housing

- Transitional housing

- Supportive housing

- Intensive tenancy support

There is no fee for service, however payment of rent is required for the housing programs.

Services Provided

They support clients to address the life challenges leading to homelessness in order for clients to exit into long-term living arrangements. This may include assisting clients to budget, build independent living skills, referrals to address issues with drug and alcohol misuse, and increase their capacity to parent.

Women's Service

Catherine House

Catherine House provides accommodation and support services for women experiencing homelessness in South Australia.

Women who are 18 years and older and unaccompanied by children can be referred to Catherine House. Referrals to the Crisis Accommodation Service are accepted from all sources, including other homelessness services, hospitals, GPs, SAPOL, or directly from women seeking accommodation.

A referral form can be found attached.

Every Catherine House client is provided with her own bedroom, shared bathroom and lounge/dining facilities. Upon arrival, women receive a welcome pack including new sleepwear, underwear and toiletries. All meals are provided.

Code RED & Code BLUE

Code RED & Code BLUE is a response to extreme weather aiming to reduce the harmful effects on people rough sleeping by:

- connecting them with support services

- providing additional services including extended operating hours for services, increased shelter options, additional food services, sunscreen etc.

Housing SA activates Code Red and Code Blue, coordinating the response across South Australia in partnership with other services.

When a Code Red or Code Blue response is activated, homelessness services will visit known rough sleeper locations to make people aware of the supports available to them.

Triggers for Code Red

- An extreme heat watch is issued if there are three or more days in a row with an average daily temperature over 29°C eg - 36°C daytime and 22°C overnight. An extreme heat watch activates standby status in preparation for a Code Red activation

- An extreme heat warning is issued where there are three or more days days in a row with an average daily temperature over 32°C eg - 40°C daytime and 24°C overnight. An extreme heat warning triggers a Code Red activation

- Any other factors related to extreme heat which require a Code Red response.

Triggers for Code Blue

- Conditions predicted to continue for at least three days by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) with any two of the following:

- temperatures dropping below an average night-time low of 6°C

- significant rainfall causing difficulty for unsheltered individuals to remain dry

- damaging wind gusts pose a high risk for the safety of unsheltered individuals.

- Conditions predicted by BOM to continue for at least five days, when temperatures drop below an average night-time low of 5°C

- Any other factors related to extreme winter weather which require a Code Blue response.

Foyer Port Adelaide

Foyer Port Adelaide is South Australia's first and only youth Foyer accommodation service.

Foyer Port Adelaide is a partnership between the Department of Human Services and St John’s Youth Services. Comprised of 23 independent apartments, the Foyer is an inspiring living and working environment that encourages independence, community belonging and wellbeing. Their work with young people is focused on developing young people’s potential and recognises that working towards aspirations and dreams is just as important as meeting their immediate needs.

Based on the ‘Foyer Deal’, young people and the Foyer team engage in a mutual contractual relationship. The young person agrees to engage with what the Foyer has to offer, and the Foyer team commits to tailoring this offer so each young person is provided with the support and resources they need to succeed.

Applying to Foyer Port Adelaide

Young people can apply themselves for an apartment at Foyer Port Adelaide, or be referred by a support worker, such as a school counsellor.

Foyer may be the right choice for you if you:

- are aged between 16-21 and are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness,

- are engaged in education, employment and/or training or actively working towards this,

- have a regular income (this can include a Centrelink independent allowance),

- have the capacity to live independently,

- can commit to participating in programs offered,

- are willing to sign an agreement (the ‘Deal’) demonstrating your commitment to participating in the Foyer community.

Homeless Connect SA provides short-term assistance until individuals are connected with a homelessness service, and offers referrals to specialist support services, including Domestic Violence and Aboriginal Family Violence services, youth services, and mental health services.
