StandBy Support After Suicide is a national Australian service that provides free, coordinated support to people and communities affected by suicide loss or exposure.

StandBy is an Australian Government–funded postvention program that supports individuals, families, friends, witnesses, workplaces and communities impacted by suicide. It offers tailored, evidence-informed support through phone and face-to-face assistance, helping people navigate grief, trauma and practical needs in the aftermath of suicide, while also connecting them to ongoing local services for longer-term care.

Services provided:

- Free telephone and face-to-face support for people impacted by suicide

- 24/7 or 7-day access to coordinated support (depending on region/service model)

- Individualised support for individuals, families, friends, witnesses and first responders

- Assistance connecting with local mental health and community services

- In-person support in homes, workplaces, schools or community settings

- Ongoing postvention support following suicide bereavement or exposure

- Practical guidance, information and resources for coping with grief and trauma

- Community workshops and education to build suicide awareness and support capacity

- Support for organisations and groups after a suicide event (e.g. schools, workplaces)

Suicide Call Back Service

The Suicide Call Back Service is a free, national 24/7 counselling service offering immediate and ongoing support to people affected by suicide.

The Suicide Call Back Service is an Australian Government–funded service delivered by qualified counsellors that provides confidential phone, video, and online chat support. It assists people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts, those worried about someone else, people bereaved by suicide, and health professionals, offering both crisis support and short-term follow-up counselling sessions to help people stay safe and supported.

Services provided:

- 24/7 telephone counselling support (1300 659 467)

- Online chat and video counselling sessions

- Immediate crisis support for people experiencing suicidal thoughts

- Support for people worried about someone at risk of suicide

- Bereavement support for people affected by suicide loss

- Short-term follow-up counselling (up to four sessions with the same counsellor)

- Safety planning and coping strategies during times of distress

Urgent Mental Health Care Centre

The Urgent Mental Health Care Centre (UMHCC) is a free, walk-in service providing 24/7 immediate support for people experiencing a mental health crisis in Adelaide.

The UMHCC is a South Australian crisis mental health service delivered by Neami National, offering a safe, non-hospital alternative for people experiencing acute distress. It provides immediate, trauma-informed care in a calm, “lounge-room style” environment, combining peer support workers and clinicians to help people stabilise, develop a care plan, and connect with ongoing supports. The service is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no referral or appointment required.

Services provided:

- 24/7 walk-in support for mental health crises

- Immediate assessment and short-term stabilisation care

- Peer support from people with lived experience

- Clinical mental health support (nurses, clinicians, medical staff)

- Trauma-informed, recovery-focused care planning

- Support for anxiety, distress, grief, suicidal thoughts and relationship stress

- Safety planning and coping strategies

- Referral and connection to ongoing community mental health services

- Follow-up check-ins after discharge

- A safe alternative to hospital emergency departments for mental health care

Wellness Connect is a free, community-based mental health service in Adelaide that provides short-term coaching and group support to help people build wellbeing, independence and social connection.

Wellness Connect is a South Australian, government-funded psychosocial support program delivered by Neami National and partner organisations. It supports adults whose mental health affects daily life by offering personalised, recovery-focused coaching and group programs. The service focuses on building practical life skills, strengthening support networks, and connecting people with housing, employment and community services to improve long-term wellbeing.

Services provided:

- One-to-one recovery coaching and support (short-term goal-focused support)

- Group programs focused on social connection, wellbeing and practical life skills

- Support to build coping strategies and improve daily living skills

- Help connecting with housing, employment and community services

- Assistance with strengthening social and family relationships

- Support to identify personal goals and build independence

- Help accessing other services, including NDIS eligibility support if relevant
