Uniting Community New ROADS Program will support you and your family through rehabilitation, and on the path to recovery.
Program Overview
They will work with you as you develop goals for recovery. Staff can help you find ways to help you commit to these and achieve them. You can refer yourself to their services, or this can be done by a family member, case worker or other service.
The can speak to you about:
- your health, family and relationship needs
- practical support for making changes in your life
- your housing needs
- ways to deal with issues that can make drug or alcohol use worse.
Rehabilitating in their shared houses
In this program, you live in a shared house as you work on your treatment plan. This involves weekly counselling sessions on your own and in a group. The program is based on a five-month stay, but this is flexible.
There is no wait list or a need to phone in. If the residential program is full, they can offer group support and counselling until a place becomes available.
This program is for people aged 21 and over.
Home detox and day program
If you are in the Limestone Coast area, you can access detox services while you stay in your home. You will receive medical and therapeutic support from GPs, nurses and counsellors.
You can also choose to do a day program known as ‘Continuum of Care’. Treatment involves group and individual counselling, and is tailored to best suit what you need.
Counselling
Even if you’re not part of one of their rehabilitation programs, you can attend counselling. You can come to counselling sessions on your own or join a group. These can help you to understand and change your use of alcohol and other drugs.
Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
If you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, they will support you in a way that respects your culture and beliefs, and they have strong links with other agencies in SA.
Private health insurance is a significant decision for many families, balancing both cost and the level of cover needed. It represents a substantial portion of a family’s budget, so no one wants to pay too much or end up with insufficient coverage. Unfortunately, premiums tend to increase each year, and with rising living costs, more people are questioning whether they can afford private insurance or should rely on the public system.
So, how do you make the right choice when deciding whether to sign up for health insurance? CHOICE, an independent consumer advocate, has released a simple guide to help Australians navigate this decision. The guide provides a financial analysis based on factors like the Government’s Medicare Levy Surcharge, using a brief survey. While it includes disclaimers and assumed variables, it offers valuable tips. However, it should not be taken as a complete or definitive guide since it doesn't account for individual preferences—such as the desire to choose when, where, and with whom you receive treatment, especially for elective surgery.
Ultimately, the decision hinges on personal priorities.
